I have been Bass fishing since I was a nipper having lived on the side of the Exe-Estuary. I always remember going on George Tuppers boat Bass fishing with my Dad on the Exe. It was the last drift of the day and nobody had caught a fish. I must have been 10yrs old at the time. Then I caught my first 5lb Bass the only fish of the day much to the disgust of the adults on the boat. That was where the bug started. I followed my dream of becoming a Commercial Bass Fisherman well over a decade ago Fishing rod and line around the Dorset coast often in challenging conditions on the Portland race.
Slow pitch jigging has become very popular in the commercial and recreational angling sector. This method is used for a wide range of species including Bass and pollock whether it be over a wreck or a reef on slack water period when most people will just give up fishing and have a sandwich. It can be the most productive time to catch large Bass and pollock especially if there are birds working. I make a range of slow jigs that work at different states of the tide with their own unique actions. Most of my slow jigs I make myself using high quality foil that will flash when descending through the water column often catching on the drop. Patience and practice can be rewarded with some of the most exciting Big Fish hook-ups
